Shadowcaster Charters focus on fly fishing and light tackle fishing for striped bass and bluefish in the waters around Plum Island, from the Merrimack River to Crane Beach. Charter customers fish aboard a 22 ft. Triton Light Tackle Series center console skiff. Large casting decks on the bow and the stern are ideal for fly fishing. The boat is fully equipped with a marine radio, fish finder, GPS chartplotter, as well as all of the Coast Guard required safety equipment. Top of the line fly fishing (Sage and Redington rods, Tibor reels) and spinning (Edge and Penn rods, Penn reels) tackle is supplied, although clients are more than welcome to bring their own equipment.
Our home port is the Newburyport Boat Basin, on the Merrimack River, in historic Newburyport, MA. Conveniently located less than an hour north of Boston, the Merrimack River is one of the premier striper fishing locations in New England and the entire northeast. There are large shallow areas that are ideal for stalking stripers with a fly rod or light spinning gear. These areas tend to be most productive towards the beginning and end of the season, typically producing the largest striped bass from the middle of May through the middle of July.
Plum Island is bordered by the Merrimack River, to the north; the Atlantic Ocean, to the east; the Ipswich River, to the south; and The Great Marsh, with it's extensive system of rivers and estuaries, to the west. When the action slows in the rivers and estuaries, from mid-July into mid-August, there typically is an abundance of bluefish on the Atlantic side of the Island. These fish strike the baits ferociously and put up a fight that will test the will of most anglers. Shadowcaster's Newburyport charters are in a perfect location to access all of these exciting fisheries.
