Captain James C. Goodhart is a Coast Guard licensed captain and a member of the American Saltwater Guides Association and the Northeast Charter Boat Captains Association. He is also a member of the Plum Island Surfcasters and Trout Unlimited. This Newburyport fishing guide has a passion for fly fishing, which he began at an early age . Captain James hand ties the bulk of the flies used on his charters and has developed a number of sand eel and baitfish patterns that are particularly effective. The Captain has been fishing with spinning gear all of his life and is equally proficient in this light tackle approach. Slamming topwater action with poppers and spooks is hard to beat on light spinning gear! When the surface feed isn't on, we have great success throwing soft plastics, metals, and bucktails. James has been fishing for striped bass and bluefish in the Merrimack River and Plum Island area for over two decades, and guiding clients since 2005. Located in close proximity to major Routes 95 and 495, light tackle and fly fishing for striped bass and bluefish on Boston's north shore couldn't be more convenient.
Capt. James is the brother of internationally acclaimed fly fisherman and guide, Dave Goodhart, who hosted Fly Fishing America on ESPN.
